1960s to 2000s | Driving Singapore's Developing Economy
- Jurong was developed as Singapore’s first industrial town in 1961 to drive our industrialisation efforts and create jobs for Singaporeans.

2008 to 2025s | Changing the Industrial Character of Jurong
- Jurong Regional Centre became Jurong Lake District (JLD) in 2008, with a new plan to help shed its industrial image and bring more offices, retail, homes and leisure to the area.
- Today, JLD brings some of the buzz, brands and mix of uses of the city to western Singapore.
- Locating the terminus of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) in JLD is a game-changer. It will make the district a gateway for cross-border business and travel.
- With the potential to plug into regional growth opportunities, JLD will be developed as Singapore’s second Central Business District (CBD).
2026 and Beyond | Leveraging New Connectivity for Future Opportunities
- Cities grow around transport hubs.
- Come 2026, travellers will dash between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in 90 minutes on high-speed trains.

Jurong Lake District
Jurong East, together with Jurong Lake, offers an exciting opportunity to be developed into the biggest lakeside destination for business and leisure. The two areas are jointly known as the Jurong Lake District.

- JLD is strategically located near high-value industries, the future Tuas Port, two world-class research universities, and offers convenient connections to the city and Malaysia.
